After 4 years playing at triathlon, I've decided to embark on an Ironman Journey before my 50th birthday. Without batting an eye my oldest son agreed to join me on this quest. My other son is coaching him and my husband and daughter are our support crew. On August 30, 2009 we will be putting our training to the test as we do Ironman Louisville. Hang in there. It's gonna be a ride!
Comedy of Errors!

Comedy of Errors!

Oh my dear! What a crazy day! Started out to do a 110k bike ride this a.m., driving in to town, even though we were headed back right by our house for the first part of the ride. But. Tom had told folks we were starting from town, so start from town we would. Only [...]

Junk Drawer!

Junk Drawer!

It’s a Recovery Week between big volume builds and I’m sitting here relaxing, pondering and surfing.

eDiscs from eLoad rock my socks. They taste like Sweet Tarts give you a boost when you need it AND are amusingly fizzy.
My family is irreverent, caustic and some might even say “crazy” and I wouldn’t have it any other [...]

Where have I been?!

Where have I been?!

Wow! Guess it’s been awhile. I wish I could say that extraordinary events have kept me from updating but truth be told, I live an exceptionally boring life. If I’m not swimming or biking or running, I’m resting or stretching or eating. Such is the life of an Ironman-in-training. The only real excitement is seeing [...]

Nowhere to hide

Nowhere to hide

A few weeks ago, our triathlon club had the tremendous opportunity to take a Swim Power Test from Dr. Genadijus Sokolovas of Global Sport Technology. Dr Sokolovas is the Sport Science Director of USA Swimming Inc. as well as coach to some of the best of the best. (Heard of a guy called Michael Phelps? [...]

It's always something!

It’s always something!

I’ve spent the last two weeks pretty much doing nothing.  And whining. Lots of whining. Because the only thing worse than doing hard workouts day after day after day is not being ABLE to do hard workouts, day after day after day!
It started innocuously enough. A bit of a tender spot on the bottom of [...]

10 Things I Learned at Tri-Camp

10 Things I Learned at Tri-Camp

Last weekend was our local Tri-Camp – two days of hard work in an effort to boost one’s fitness as the new race season approaches. My reason for taking part had less to do with the upcoming racing and was more about pushing myself. And running. With other people. Here’s what I learned over the [...]

Food as Fuel

Food as Fuel

I’ve been quiet lately. Not because I haven’t had anything to say – I always have something to say – but because my current reality flies in the face of what most athletes believe is true. And frankly, it’s wearying to keep explaining, “No. I’m not crazy.” and “Yes. I know what I’m doing.” and [...]

Triathlon's Fourth Sport

Triathlon’s Fourth Sport

Swim. Bike. Run. Eat. Repeat.
Ask any triathlete why they do what they do and likely many will answer, “So I can eat what I want, when I want.” (read : eat like a pig)
Good thing I don’t consider myself “A Triathlete”.
See, back when I first started this kooky sport, “Doing it” was my Number One [...]

Roller Coaster Week

… or perhaps subtitled “Beware the Ides of March”.
I was hit by another bout of flu courtesy of Dear Daughter, hours after I wrote my last missive. Be careful when saying how great and uneventful training is or prepare to be hit by the inevitable lightening bolt or, in my case, a Flu-by-4!
Workouts were forfeited [...]
