Tour de France “Talk”

This was the most popular post last year, with the chatter about Lances return.

So, whose going to win the Tour?

Take the stages?

Crash?

Overrated?

Let’s talk!

  • Big crashes in todays stage. Is Mark Cavendish on blow like Boonen last year?

  • Jen

    My .02 cents ….

I think Armstrong’s gonna try and take it – a final Last Hurrah.
Other than that I hope Andy Schleck wins. I like that boy.
Contador’ll take some of the mountain stages but doesn’t have the team to take him to the top.
And I hope that Robby takes some of the sprints. I LOVE that boy! :D

  • Jen

Stage 2: Just … Holy Hell!

  • TJ

tuesday better be better than monday. what a waste!

  • Jen

Stage 3 – Holy Hell Part Deux

… Awesome ride Ryder. Go Canada!!
    … Cancellara’s a machine. Electric even. ;)
… Lucky Andy. Poor Frank :(
… Vinnie. Vinnie. Vinnie. Hahahahahahaha. Oh Contador what’ve you got yourself into?!
… Armstrong you showed your stuff today. Rock it!

    • Todays stage was a bad time for my website (veetle) to not show the stage.

Yes, Cancellara is the man. If they could just make Paris Roubaix 20 stages long; he’d be king.

It will be interesting to see what the Shack does to counter. Where was Levi in all the mix up?

  • TJ

check out steephill.tv for all of youre free live coverage.

  • Jen

Stage 4 … oh Robby ya almost made it.

As for Alessandro “Ale-Jet” Petacchi … 37 year old makes a “come back”? I want some of what he’s having. ;)

  • Jen

Stage 5 …. rather boring flat stage, a sprinters finish.

I’m glad Cav won and it does the heart good to see him overwhelmed on the podium. Thor ya better watch out!

Still hoping for a McEwen win … he tweeted he might be allergic to the tetanus shot he was given after his crash (posted a GROSS photo too!) … hopefully, he’ll feel better. Yep. Soft spot for the Aussie. :)

    • For the sprinters, I’m on the fence. Thor is consistent but Cav wants to win stages. I like stage winners but people tend to only remember jersey winners. I’m wondering when Farrer is going to drop out.

  • Jen

Stage 6 … best part of today? skinny biker boys trying to *whomp* each other!

    Robbie’s in 3rd for Green.

  • Go Ryder! Canadian boy sitting in 3rd place. He could be CVVs new replacement!

  • Jen

Stage 8: I would SO not wanna be the wrench that checked over Armstrong’s bike this morning. OUCH! Nice try Lance. :(

    Yeah Andy!

  • I hope this isn’t a fall from grace for LA. Crash out of the tour… Feds are hunting for needles… Not good.

On the positive, Ryder is hanging in there!

  • TJ

mmmmmm i think LA will dominate on one mtn stage, and then hopefully ride for winey mc levi.

    chris horner for yellow

    go ryder!

    • Jen

Yah. I think Armstrong’ll rip up the hill one more time just because he can. Assuming, of course, he CAN.

I shudder about Levi being the front man. Urg. Though I did have to laugh at Horner’s comment re: why would we turn ourselves inside out for a GC 8th place. *snirk*

And I hope Andy makes mincemeat outta Contador.

  • You know, Menchov has been silently making progress. If the guy can stay up right and follow the wheels at the right time, he may have a chance.
    Still hopin for Ryder though!

  • This stage is the best so far! Lots of legs blowing up!

    • Jen

      Ca-RAZY day! Holy moly …

… would’ve loved to have seen Schleck take the sprint.
Sorry Luis Leon didn’t do it – for no other reason than to get Phil/Paul some points. Cadel? Stop crying Roosterman!

  • TJ

def. epic. the feed im watchin is a bunch of british guys… did you know the way they originally categorized hills Cat 4 through 1 was based on what gear the car needed to get up the hill?

big jens with the pull to *almost* the summit and then sammy sanchez’ descent was just plain awesome

    • I think Schlek needs to go for it now. Contador is either on edge or waiting to find it. If he hasn’t got it yet then Andy needs to get time.

      Voight = machine

    • Jen

Did you see when Jens finally cracked? He almost fell right over. Just. Stopped. Now THAT’s a domestique!!

Okay. Feel kinda bad for dissing Cadel after finding out the man rode w/a fractured elbow. Maybe not such a chicken man after all.

  • Jen

Stage 11 … had to go get pinpricked but because it was a slow/sprinter’s day was back in time to watch.

LOVE the sprinter’s theatrics … wonder if they teach headbutting in Sprinter School?! Personally, I don’t think Renshaw moved re: Farrar. Maybe the barrier was closer in that spot? Whatever. Tyler wouldn’t have stood a chance had the way been completely clear anyway. Cavendish is a ROCKET!

  • Jen

Yesterday’s stage 14 was pretty dramatic! LOVED the track stands in the middle of the road. Contador has gotta be feeling anxious as Andy looks awesome.

I think we’re gonna see some step-ups from RadioShack today. Win for Lance in memory of Fabio?

  • Jen

Stage 15 … I take this shiznit waaaay too seriously. I am so po’d I could spit nails AND my stomach is in knots. Yah. Sure, Alberto you “beat” Andy’s attack. And you don’t know why he fell behind. Sure. I hope you get creamed on the Tourmalet.

  • TJ

i love it. gotta love the drama of the TdeF, its like when you find out your fav soapie is a backstabbing, alduter!

the way i see it, AC was attacked by Frano, and in the heat of it, Franco forgot how to shift. AC was already on the counter attack abd before he realized what happened he was dueling it out with menchov and Sammy S. Franco got almost all of his time back by the time he crested the mtn, which was pretty amazing. Im pretty sure it one of the shots Lance was just standing still. And Francos, for once, great descending helped him claw back to 8sec.
    Ballisimo!

    • Jen

T, I’m gonna beg to differ. It was Vino that was right behind Andy when he had the mechanical. Contador was waaay back. He actually passed when Andy was off the bike. He couldn’t NOT have known WTF was going on and he chose to attack anyway. If I were him I’d be making friends w/some big Italian thugs. ;)

  • TJ

youve been reading too many cyclingnews.com forum threads :)

andy is gonna blow it all on the TT anyway

    • Jen

      Just calling’em as I SEES’em. You forget I watch. Every. Day. :P

And I think Andy has one of those newfangled motorized bikes (lined w/tinfoil to escape xray detection) to ride for the TT. ;)

  • Amanda

Did you see us??? We were there on the 2nd Category 2 mountain (Col de Arles?). Very neat to see!! But we didn’t hear about the end till we went to a grocery store and it was on the news :D

    • Jen

Amanda, I watched a Spanish news feed online after Cliff emailed where you were. Unfortunately, the camera guys don’t seem to focus on the spectators. What’s up with that?!? Sounds like it was all that and MORE. Can’t wait to hear the full story on your return. Enjoy!

    • My guess is we’ll have to get the stage and slow it down to find us.

On the flip side, the video I have has all the tour favorites!

  • TJ

    Amanada,

the CAT2 didnt make tv coverage, so nope :(

how is it to wait for hours to watch everything fly by in 30sec? :)

  • Jen

Stage 16 … pretty epic. Nice try Lance!

Best Phil/Paul quote of the day …”I’m Gessink it’s Robert.” *groan*

  • Jen

If you haven’t read this, you really really REALLY need to. Jens you are my Official Hero!

    http://www.bicycling.com/tour-de-france/tour-features/saying-no-sag-wagon

  • Jen

Stage 17 … weeellll not QUITE as epic as it might’ve been. I think Andy & Contador were well matched.

And it’s really disconcerting watching the tour AND trying to spot friends! (http://selenosvuelta.blogspot.com/)

Finally, for those that think it’s all over? The odds don’t know … this isn’t a math test!

  • TJ

altho it was anticlimatic, it was an even match to the top. but i think andy shouldve gone harder. harder andy!

maybe he’ll pull it out for the tt…. buttttttttt…. i wouldnt bet against bert

    • I think many people though the stage was a bit of a debbie downer.

      It’s a race for third place….

Hopefully Andy can have the ride of his life.

  • Jen

Stage 19 … Fabian is a machine. A MACHINE! 52k an hour? geez!

Andy gave it his all and I think Contador was prolly shittin’ bricks for the first 16k when he heard he was down 2sec overall. I’ve never seen someone shift around on his saddle so much. Yowza!

… and tomorrow it’s all over. *sigh*

  • TJ

i kinda wish Cav woulda pulled off the green. he’s go a friggen great sprint!
