Born To Run

I guess it’s been awhile since the last time I checked in (or anybody wrote for that matter).  For most I guess it’s the time of year to get back to their “lives”, or whatever they can cram in before 300 days of training.

I’ve started and not finished about 5 posts in the last couple of weeks.  Writers block I guess.  I never want this site to feel like work and by the time I get around to posting I’m a little too cooked to come up with legible sentences!

The cause of my sleep is that I’ve been putting in steady days with lots of swimming.  Some weeks my swimming amounts to more distance than my running!  I’ve started to become more aware in the water, things like body position, head position or when I get tired how my head comes up.  I wouldn’t say I’m getting a lot faster but my technique is getting better which will hopefully this will translate into speedier lap times!

Yesterday, Amanda and I got our prizes for finishing 3rd and 2nd overall in the 5Peaks series.  This was a surprise to Amanda as she had never been a trail runner at all.  Pretty easy to see that she’s starting to like it!  I think next year I’ll pick and choose instead of going for the whole series as the unpredictable dates can cause havoc to an already busy schedule.

I finished my first book since….. I can’t remember when, in less than a week.  The title: Born to run by Christophur McDougall.  In a very brief summary it’s about the journey of running that is based around the Tarahumara tribe that resides in Mexico.  The biggest lesson you’ll take away from this is about the running shoe and how it could possibly ruining our feet.  The author holds nothing back as he attacks the technology from shoe companies saying were better off in our natural state: bare and free.

Clearwater race is this weekend.  I actually think right now I could beat my time from last year based on my current training.  We’ll see though, I’ll be back next year (unless I get a Kona slot!).

Anyhow thats all from this kid.  For all of you following my stache, it’s taking its sweet jesus time.  My body is truly built for the endurance!

Happy Trainin
