thoughts and reflections.
-dealing with stress comes in many forms. chewing nails, pacing, sodomizing paper mache cows
-waiting for the race to happen is like waiting for your execution. just bring it on already!
-swimming, biking and running the days leading up to the race are not going to help your training regime
-sandbars the first third of the swim are a welcome relief
-changing tents are a beautiful thing. just get nekkid and someone will clean up the rest
-ensure you check your equipment before you race, maybe, even before you leave for your trip. stressing about broken wheels 2 days before the race sucks.
-i’m glad you can rent wheels at races
-an ironman is a long day. try not to fall on the pavement. or crash your bike.
-adrenaline can be a great thing
-double shot starbucks espresso coffee can is a beautiful thing
-keep your heart-rate low on the bike. keep eating and drinking. don’t think about the run, but know that how you treat your body now will affect you later on
-luh-ville’s got some great scenery and pavement
-i’m a confident cyclist, but cycling with 3000 other people is humbling, especially when they don’t know how to ride
-i now hate water, gatorade, bananas and gels.
-start slow, stay in your heart rate on the run. you’ve still got 40 odd k to run.
-its amazing how you can feel great. no cramps. no lung or heart pain.
-its amazing how bad you can feel. my legs are so tight i can’t take a normal stride.
-all triathlons should have aid stations every 2k. beautiful
-chicken broth is amazing
-i only get emotional watching the movie Armageddon, and ironman finishers. oh, and then i saw Ma out on the run
-i felt relieved when i crossed the finish line. overwhelmed.
-i thought i may feel post-ironman depression. i don’t.

These should be sent to every IM athlete one week prior to race day, titled “Shit You Need To Know”.
You cry there honky? Your finishing photos looked like you just did a sprint!
