Round 2 of Questions

Yes it’s that time again.  My random thoughts over the last couple of weeks compiled in one page.  If you’ve got the answers let me know!

What is the ideal diet?  I read the other day that the American Food Standards say that humans need more than 20% fat but less than 35%.  For protein and carbs they’re more lenient, not giving exact numbers.  Is it because North America is becoming fat they need to put a maximum number?  Or is it like driving on the highway and when it says Max 100 it really means 120?

What is on my dogs face?  So Figs has had this zit thing on his mouth for the last couple weeks and it keeps growing.  Amanda thinks it’s a wart.  It’s white but has some red dots in it.  If he licks me will I get it too?

Where the heck do they sell speed shoes in Ottawa?  I have not found one good store offering decent speed sneakers!

If one thinks he has all the answers (not naming anyone), should they be expressed or kept to themselves?  What happens if the answers are not proven but the logic is good?

Who has any ideas on how to make an LMS tri suit?  I’m starting to get a couple but lack the full concept.

If you have questions maybe I can answer yours and you can mine.  That would be a good trade.

re: fat … from what I’ve read – and I’ve read a LOT – the average NA diet is super heavy in carbs. Particularly simple carbs (read: sugar). With the fat scare of the last 10 years or so, Joe Schmoe understands Fat=Bad and has steered toward “low fat” products. Problem is most low fat manufactured foods simply replaced saturated fats with sugar. Why? Well, it tastes good. (http://www.precisionnutrition.com/good-vs-too-good) Joe Schmoe doesn’t realize we all need GOOD fat. Which I suspect is why they gave a specific number.

re: racing flats … isn’t TriRudy Ottawa based? Can’t someone on there tell you?

re: knowing all … NOBODY knows it all. But if you have a logical interpretation, even without proof, it’s worthy of sharing.

re: trisuit … PHYSICALLY make or “have” them made??

my question: when will my knee be ready to bike and run again?

  • so do you agree with the specific number of 20-35%? I know it all comes down to the individuals needs but what seems to work for you?

tried the site. i think it might be a wart.

    racing flats. yeah…

i think your knee is just taking its time. looking at it from your perspective, a day seems like a long time. but take a step back and look at it this way, 2 weeks is such a small part in someones life. most people can’t train consistently for 2 weeks so don’t beat yourself up over not getting time in. your body isn’t going to forget the previous years work. remember, it’s better to go in to the race a little undertrained.

fat … 35% seems a bit high to me. Having said that, in my personal experience while trying to lose weight I didn’t pay much attention to fat calories. Occasionally my intake might have been that high. Mainly when I chose higher fat proteins though. (think salmon or red meat) I firmly maintain that reducing carb intake through “white” foods – primarily sugar but white flour/white pasta/white rice – North American’s would be much healthier regardless of fat eaten. Fat afterall does not beget fat.
