Crossing-Over

No I don’t mean to the dark side.  I mean swimming.  On Monday our swim group did a 500m time trial.  While plowing through the water I was told that my right arm crosses the center line.  In fact on further inspection, I swim crooked.  My dang right lats are just too strong!

So I went looking for some tips on how to correct this.  Here is a good tip which I found:

Overreaching (extending arm too far before hand entry and/or arms cross center line)

  • 11 and 1 o’clock. Imagine your head is at 12 o’clock your hands should be in the 11 o’clock or 1 o’clock position when they enter the water. This is roughly in line with your shoulders. They should never cross the center line of the body. Try swimming slowly, and each time your right hand enters, say 1 o’clock. Each time your left hand enters, say 11 o’clock. Or, if it’ easier to remember, each time any hand enters, say ’shoulder’. Try to be aware of where your hands are through out the entire stroke, and do not ever let them cross the center line!

Then this device is suppose to keep your arms/ elbows in line.  Never seen one!

Ever have these problems?  What did you do to correct them?

On a good note I lowered my swim time (500ms) by 2 minutes.  Slowly…  slowly I’m hoping to become an “average” swimmer!

Thanks for reading,

Happy (swim swim swim) Trainin!
