LMS Athletes Podium On The Weekend

What was described as one of the toughest races ever by both Amanda Lohnes and Cliff Worden-Rogers, it was all they could do to finish the tough 5peaks race at Tremblant on Saturday.  Both athletes put in a great effort, Amanda finishing 2nd (woman) and Cliff finishing 3rd (overall).

The course had very little description [...]

Eye Exercise

Most triathletes can’t do enough already.  So why not work on your eyes!  You’ll be the strongest sighter in the group.  Is there age group awards who can see the best?  Should be….

For almost a century, eye exercises have been promoted as a way to strengthen vision and ease nearsightedness and astigmatism, much [...]

Better Drilling = Better Driller

Borrowed from: Chuckie Vs Blog.

Just as it is with stretching* I’m not an ardent advocate of drills. Now before anybody gets themselves in a tizzy, I must first assert that I am not talking about motorized drills like the kind they sell down at Home Depot, with batteries and bits and lengthy warning [...]

Brain vs Body

Which one do you think really drives you? Or should I say, which is the first one to give up? Early on in the season, when fitness is low, your body probably can’t keep up with your brain. Your brain “expects” more but your body can’t do it. Then, after some work, your body [...]

Odot Half Race Report

Last fall, after completing the Fall Colours Half Marathon, where I posted a 1:49:52, I pronounced to Cliff that I wanted to do a sub-1:40 half in the 2009 Ottawa Race Weekend. While knocking off  9 minutes in a few months might have sounded  a little overambitious, I was pretty sure that I [...]

Pace Bunny

Pacing is always a problem when it comes to racing.  Most people go out way to fast and crash.  Or event worst, set unrealistic goals which they cannot not obtain.

On Sunday I took the opportunity to lead the 1:40 pace group for the half-marathon.  The speed works out to 4:44mins/k.  Cruising speed [...]

Bytown 171 Success

Great weekend for playing here in Otown.  Under sunny skies on Saturday, over 30 athletes participated in the inargual Bytown 171 comprising of a 100K ride + 10K run (on Sunday another 40K ride + 21.1K run).

The Worden-Rogers duo of TJ and Cliff, participated in this great charity with all proceeds ($20, [...]

Gut Rot

Here are some great tips from Ben Greenfield for avoiding gas build up.  If it hasn’t happened to you (thank your lucky stars!) it may at some point.

Endurance athletes need heavy amounts of carbohydrate based fuel. When this sugary fuel meets up with the bacteria in your stomach, digestion and fermentation produces [...]
