summer is here

summer is here. how do i know you may ask? you can smell it in the air. bugs, buds, and flowers. all possible reasons. but no. see, as cyclists (which we all are) clad in spandex, or shorts, being in wide open spaces, out in the sun, sweating it out, were judged based on our funny tans. in frigid Canada, unless you’re totally HC, were all bundled up during the best of winter rides. as late starters in revealing our pearly whites, (Ed: not teeth) we have to train extra hard to get the brown lines. and hence, the first day of summer. the day, where you reveal to the sun our beautiful albino bodies and say… do your best. and i lost. see, you think after living in cancer ridden Australia, being the fairest of them all, burns on top of burns, generally laughing in the face of mr. sun, i would have learned. i did one thing well. my face was covered in spf 45. my legs, and my arms? nope.

see below.
tj

my goal today was a 6hr ride. it would probably be the biggest epic day id ever done. i took careful considerations on route, enough food, where’d id make my stops etc. however, 2 hrs into the ride the inevitable happened. flat. nothing takes the wind out of your sails more. too boot, my backup tube was too short for my wheels. after an hour of trying tubes, tires continuing to flat etc, i said screw it, im going home. so, 6 turned into 2.5. but, i vowed to continue. after a curried dinner (the very best rocket fuel,) i took out sergino with his new aero bars and added a wet and rainy 2 hrs. so, still short… ill add some more on tomorrow. if i can get this burn under control. til next time.

  • Just had a taste of flatting myself this morning. Except my tire is a wired. So I just rode the dame thing 7K to work. For all of you that have never ridden on a flat tire it is not ideal. Your ass is constantly being bumped every time you run over the valve stem. Pedal, pedal, bump, pedal, pedal, bump… Any pot hole is magnified times 10.

    It was sunny though.

Good try brother. 4.5/6 is nothing to cry about. There will be more chances to ride long.
