Roller Coaster Week

… or perhaps subtitled “Beware the Ides of March”.

Et Tu Brute?

Et Tu Brute?

I was hit by another bout of flu courtesy of Dear Daughter, hours after I wrote my last missive. Be careful when saying how great and uneventful training is or prepare to be hit by the inevitable lightening bolt or, in my case, a Flu-by-4!

Workouts were forfeited to sleep, liquids and whining. Lots and lots of whining. Likely because of the copious amounts of sleep … though I haven’t entirely ruled out the possibility of being elbowed, mistakenly of course, for the whining … I woke up on Friday with a severe case of Stiff Neck™.

Actually, I’m pretty sure it was caused by over-rotating during yoga the previous night. I seriously need to be careful with overdoing the stretching; this is the second self-inflicted “injury” from trying to be The Yoga Warrior when under the weather.

Fast forward to Sunday, still with the Stiff Neck™ but looking forward to a long bike ride in the sun, when I hurled up my just eaten breakfast. *geeez*!! My diagnosis is leaning toward the Beta Alanine I’ve been taking. This is the second week and I was supposed to up the dosage last week but being out of commission, doubled it this week. After a week away. Probably not the wisest move. Further, it put me out for the day, nursing my stomach AND my neck. By swim time I was feeling marginally better and decided to buck up. HINT: swimming with a bunged neck? Not so much fun!

Today, I’m still battling with this – a case of mild stomach ick and the bunged neck. Interval run + weights = uncomfortable but doable.

It finally occurred to me to check online for the neck pain. Duh! And Look! A potential solution.

I’ve tried it a couple of times this afternoon and the prognosis looks rosy! Now if I can just make it through this week’s yoga injury free!!
