For the past 2 months I’ve really been searching out the Ultramarathon scene. I have no idea why. Having never done a marathon you’d think that would be more of a priority. Instead, I signed up for almost double the distance, a 50 miler on December 5, 2009.
The following is the guideline for the North Face Ultra Marathon Championships in San Francisco, CA.
Ratings:
A majority of the course covers run-able fire road (very little technical single track) overlooking the Pacific Ocean with occasional glimpses of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Elevation Change: 5/5
Technical Terrain: 2/5
Overall Difficulty: 5/5
Scenery: 5/5
The best part of all this? My year is planned around September. That leaves me roughly 2 months to get ready for this baby! I’m stoaked now…. Want to be on my support team?!

Gee. I dunno Kiddo. San Francisco. In December?
Sounds like we’re doin’ Christmas early this year, huh?!
I did the 50 km version of that course last December. It is a spectacular course and the weather was perfect for running. The 50 miler would be pretty tough though, there is a lot of elevation on that course.
