Have any of you tried or used the Clorox bath? No idea what I’m talking about? Me either till I heard the Ben Greenfield podcast talking about it.
Basically the Clorox bath is used to clean your fruits and veggies. How many of you have put more thought than just applying a little water? According to Ann Louise Gittleman (Ph.D., C.N.S) just rinsing off your greens is not good enough. According to her, you are harming your system by not killing the harmful micro-organisms, bacteria and other parasites that are on your fruits and veggies that are wiped out from using a diluted Clorox solution.
My question to you is, how do you clean your fruits and veggies? Do you do something different or have you tried to Clorox bath?
I did a little searching around and below is a recipe for the bath if you’d like to try it.
Take half a teaspoon of Clorox (not any other brand of bleach) and add it to one gallon of water. Place your food in the Clorox bath for the following times. Then rinse in plain water for 10 minutes.
leafy veggies 15 minutes root or thick-skinned veggies 30 minutes berries, peaches, plums 15 minutes

Good on ya for looking up the ratio – I was too lazy! FYI She mentions she uses this for meat and poultry too. (I don’t THINK she said fish but maybe I’ve spaced on that). What did you think of the advice overall??
Overall I thought it was cool you made the site!
He seems to put a lot of emphasis on supplements; pills or powders. I’m on the fence whether I agree with him or not.
As for the show in general it’s insightful.
I’d like to try to the Clorox bath, especially on fruits and veggies where you know they spray a lot of pesticides.
I’ve found in the podcasts I’ve listened to that feature nutrition Ben will provide a natural alternative as well as a supplement option. Though if you look at his website you wouldn’t know it.
Let us know what you think of the Clorox bath!
The white stuff you see in those bags of baby carrots that don’t get used up right away is bleach residue so I have my concerns about bleach. Your solution is a very small ratio, though… I’ve just purchased from the health food store an All Natural Fruit and Veggie Wash concentrate made by Nature Clean, http://www.franktross.com. Haven’t even tried it yet; was recommended to me. Not as cost effective, of course – the price tag came off but I think it was about $5.95 for 700 ml/24 fl. oz, with a 30 ml/1 oz to 1 gallon (4.5 L) ratio.
Here in Mexico for winter we rinse our fruit and veg in a bucket of water with a few drops of iodine stirred into water
