Why are road/racing bike seats so skinny? I’ve got a few theories.
(1) The coach of a world renowned French cycling team developed it as a deterrent in order to keep his athletes out of the saddle—to get 110% out of them on hill climbs.
(2) To narrow down the competition. If you develop something that is uncomfortable, and no one uses, then the chances of them taking up the sport are lowered. The fewer people that join, the less competition, thereby bettering your chances at winning.
(3) To develop a sport equivalent to the g-sting.
(4) Following the 2nd world war the government created them to curb the baby boom.
I know it’s not because they are aerodynamic, because let face it…a human inside a airplane doesn’t need to be aerodynamic, just like a seat doesn’t need to be aerodynamic inside a human.

Hey bud,
Another great post. For some reason Modzilla does not like everyone seeing this post. I’ll try and go in and fix it with IE.
