You’ve done it too. I know you have. I just rushed in to grab a few quick things, and now I’m standing in line at the grocery store—and there is an attractive young lady in front of me. Then I did it. I judged what she was buying. Don’t look innocent; if you’re visiting this site then I know you’ve done it too. But it was automatic…I couldn’t help myself. Turns out she eats quite healthy, lots of whole wheat and green veggies, and good for her! And I start thinking that this girl isn’t bad at all. Then she looks back and smiles at me, giving me that dark sultry look, the kinda look that makes grown men participate in triathlons, and as she is turning back to pay for her stuff, she checks ‘it’ out, and by ‘it’ I mean…my grocery pile. I immediately check over my order—and boys I am in trouble. I’m planning on doing an epic ski trip the next day so I’ve got some white pita breads (no whole wheat ones left, but its for the homemade hummus I have at home), two boxes of pizza pops (they were on a super sale and it’s a cheap treat when skiing, and I’m hoping it’s better then the poutine at the hill??), some plain chicken breasts…with the skin and bones (it was a killer deal), and a tub of margarine (my girlfriend is pretty kinky). Now the deal is sealed, there is no chance this girl will ever talk to me.
Lesson learned. From now on I always make sure I buy some sweet potatoes and spinach, no matter what I go to the grocery store for. So if your in town, stop by…I’ve got a tonne of spinach and sweet potatoes, and I don’t have a #$%&ing clue what to do with them. the part time athlete

thats amazing!
Yeah, its even worse when you have little kids cereal and chocolate milk, but people look at you and clearly you don’t have kids.
Oh man! That’s so funny! And yup, we do the same thing. And just in case you really REALLY needed to know … I googled “spinach sweet potato recipes” … http://www.google.ca/search?q=spinach+sweet+potato+recipes&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
Oh yes, we’ve all judged and been judged. I feel the same way when I get sick – like that just shouldn’t happen to someone who works so hard at being healthy. Hellooo – where did I ever get the idea that I was above being human??!!
PTA … great story (and so true).
Suggest you shop in rural grocery stores. On the few occassions when we shop in an urban grocer, food selection seems to be important. Not so in rural grocers — you’d be amazed at how many 2L bottles of pop you can fit in a *large* grocery cart! And pizza pops are a ‘healthy treat’.
