How to cure a cold…
Fall, the leaves turn colour, another layer of clothes is added, the days get shorter and the common cold strikes as your body adjusts to the weather.
At work I picked up a bug just in time for the weekend. When I get sick it usually follows the same pattern: shoulders feel tight, wake up with a scratchy throat which progresses into a stuffy nose and then possibly a cough. I’ve tried derailing this process but have been unsuccessful this far.
I woke up Saturday morning with a scratch in my throat, my usual sign of getting sick. My weekend of high mileage and intensity looked to be squashed.
Saturday I planned to ride for 2-3 hours. I decided to do 2 hours but ride easier, keeping my heartrate down. I also made sure to take in alot more calories to help make useful fuel for my body to use against the virus.
Sunday was no better and I was already making plans to change my whole week. This day required some hard running and biking. No chance. I decided to focus on some house chores that I had been neglecting and doing an easy 5K. It felt good to sweat which led me to an idea: hitting the sauna in the night for a further heat treatment.
So after eating supper I headed to the gym for a 20 minute cycle to get the blood flowing and then into the sauna for 10 minutes. I drank lots of water to help replenish what I was losing. Although I didn’t feel great, I felt like I was winning the war.
Monday was the kicker. I got up and did a short 5K to again help sweat out the bug. My throat was scratchy but my energy was slowly coming back.
I had to work but I made sure to take a handful of vitamin C pills with me. Every hour I took 500mg with some food. All day I swallowed pills and by the time I got off, I had cured myself! My energy had come back and my scratchy throat was gone!
I hate being sick. I do weird things to avoid it (like not opening doors with my hands and making my girlfriend wash her hands so she can’t give me germs!).
Anywho, I hope this might work for some of you!

Nice Cliff, you overdosed on vitamin Cs to cure the cold.
